MAY.
Thee, lovely month, whose joyous birth
Transmits to the reviving earth
A ray of heav's eternal spring,
In lays of extasy we sing;
Whether thy soft brow thou unfold
In purple clouds, and orion's gold;
Or at eve, with light foot tread,
O'er cowslips dewy bed;
Down with west hills graceful move,
Breathing health, and light, and love.
